Portland is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Traffic in Portland peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Came across the Rice Hat today and stopped in for the Shaking Beef. Was not disappointed. The beef was tender and flavorful and the portion was absolutely massive! Staff advised that the Rice Hat is best enjoyed family style and I would agree. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked fantastic and was very large. Will definitely come back next time we are in town.

Definitely not worth what you pay. I had the combo fried rice and a drink for $30. Sadly I was not impressed. If it was good i wouldnt mind. Then the AC was not working. Just a bad experience.

This was our first time eating at The Rice Hat and we will definitely return. We've been trying to find a good Chinese restaurant, and this is the first one that we have truly enjoyed. The portions were huge. Loved the egg rolls.

Probably the best wonton soup Iβve ever had but it got cold super fast because itβs served in a metal bowl, soup bowls should be a good insulator (like porcelain) not a metal conductor that sucks all the heat out. General tso chicken looked great presentation wise and the sauce was good but it was over cooked / tough and hard to chew (maybe not the best cuts of chicken too). Egg roll was delicious, fried rice was not bad. I would come back because overall I think this place is really good and has potential but could be a little better with some minor adjustments.
